How to Obtain a Marriage License

The couple needs to go to the county clerks office with a picture ID, ex: drivers license. There are two types of Marriage licenses: Public and Confidential

Public:
You can get married anywhere in the State of California and you need at least one
Witness during the ceremony and the marriage record is made available to the public.

The couple needs to go to the county clerks office with a picture ID, ex: drivers license. If you were married before you will need to know the date the marriage ended. If divorced within the last six months please bring a copy of the final judgment. The Marriage license is valid for 90 days effective the day it was issued. No blood test required. The fee is $85.

Confidential:
You must be living together, getting married in the County where you purchased your
license, no witnesses are required and the marriage record is only available to the husband and wife.

The marriage ceremony must be preformed in the same county where purchased. The couple needs to go to the county clerks office with a picture ID, ex: drivers license. The couple will be required to swear that they are living together as husband and wife. If you were married before you will need to know the date the marriage ended.
